I want to take this opportunity to thank all the veterans of the United States Armed Forces for their service to our nation and our freedom. As I said at our regular meeting just a few hours ago, there are veterans who served in peacetime – and thanks to their contribution, peace is what we enjoyed. There are those who served in combat and, although there may be conflicting opinions about the choices made by our government, it cannot be denied that you answered your nation’s call, and free men and women owe you a debt of gratitude.
Then again, there are those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to the cause of freedom, and they are beyond my words. But today I will thank them anyway, in honor of the families who lost brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, husbands and wives and mothers and fathers, in the name of freedom.
