Yes, it’s 2011 and I still don’t have my flying motorcycle. I’m disappointed. But I hope that this message finds you and yours healthy, happy and upright on two wheels.
On January 12, we will meet at The Rock Wood Fired Pizza in Lynnwood, Washington at 7 PM to conduct the first regular meeting of the new year. This is eight days prior to Black Thursday, the traditional day that motorcyclists descend on Olympia to remind them “we are here, we are here!” I strongly recommend that you call your elected officials tomorrow and ask their staff to make time for you on the 20th. Remember: the person you are talking to is NOT a receptionist, he or she is a member of the legislator’s staff and must be treated with the same respect you would obviously show for the member. Hint, hint.
Another thing we will be addressing on the 12th: there will be an election for the position of president. I have been honored with the opportunity to serve you in this position for several years, and I believe it is in the best interest of the organization to have a new hand at the helm. I am also preparing for some changes in my own life, advancing my (day job) career, that will require a great deal of focus, and I believe WRRA deserves more mindshare than I will be able to offer. Please contact me directly at email@example.com with nominations for this position – note that self-nominations are perfectly acceptable. I encourage you to attend the meeting, because one thing you can’t “phone” (or email) in is your vote for your next president.
No, I’m not going away – yeah, as if you could get rid of me that easily. I will remain involved, and will still be going to Olympia. But my role will change. Maybe yours will, too? There’s a lot to be done….
I hope to see you on the 12th. Ride like it matters – after all, you and I know that it does. — Ian
