Hot off the presses from Olympia, I have some good news about SB 5141 (Traffic Signals). After meeting with the Chair of House Transportation it is safe to report that all intentions are to move forward with the Senate version of our traffic signal bills. It is closer to the finish line and has wide spread support, so it only makes sense to go with that version. At this point nobody in House Leadership has indicated any opposition to the issue personally or made me aware of any opposition or intent to hold things up. That, while no means a guarantee, is definitely encouraging.
The House and Senate will be on the floor through 17:00 on the 18th, so the earliest the bill can get a hearing is the 19th. The next cutoff is March 3rd, when bills have to be out of the Transportation Committee, followed by March 7th, which is the last day to consider most bills on the floor.
All riders need to contact both of their House members immediately and ask for their continued support for both a hearing and floor action on SB 5141. The sooner they hear from us the better. Let’s get this traffic signal issue behind us.
