Who's Who

The Officers

Our Board of Directors is composed of a President, Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Secretary and Treasurer, which are elected positions; and a number of appointed Directors. Elected positions are for a term of two years. All are volunteer positions.

All members in good standing are eligible to apply for any position! The President and Secretary are elected in January of each even year, and VP and Treasurer are elected in odd years. Directors serve at the mutual pleasure of the membership and the individual.

Ian King, President

  • Current term expires: 2010

Ian King has been riding motorcycles since his teens, but only became an active member of the motorcycle rights community in 2000. ”I was the typical cynical, apathetic American,” says Ian.  He commutes daily on Harley and BMW motorcycles to his job at Vulcan, as well as to most of the meetings he attends with legislators, agency representatives and various motorcycle-related groups.  Ian was a member of the 2006 Governor’s Task Force for Motorcycle Safety, and has given presentations on policy and advocacy topics at meetings of MRF, ABATE of Oregon and ABATE of Washington.  He is also politically active in education issues.

Ian lives in Seattle with his wife Brenda and their daughter Rachael, who received a dirt bike for her seventh birthday.

Rolf Vitous, Vice President

  • Current term expires: 2011

Rolf Vitous is a WMSP certified MC Instructor (since Aug 2003). He has been riding significantly longer than that. A Washington native (Seattle/Marysville) most of his family resides in Snohomish County. Rolf has worked at many levels within the Motorcycle Safety Training community (Field Tech/Instructor/Mentor/Program Manager/Business Owner) and has spent time supporting and proposing issues/legislation in Olympia.

Rolf lives in Edmonds and is a member of several motorcycle related organizations (WRRA, CBSBC, IBA, ApriliaForum, PNWRider)

Carl Spurgeon, Secretary

  • Current term expires: 2010

Lloyd Gardner

Lloyd Gardner

Lloyd Gardner, Treasurer

  • Current term expires: 2011

Lloyd Gardner brings an unshakeable sense of integrity to WRRA’s financial affairs.  His commitment to riding is no less apparent: he has completed several Iron Butt routes on his Honda Gold Wing.
Lloyd lives in Everett with his wife.

Board of Directors

In addition to our officers, WRRA is served by several Directors who fill various roles.  Again, these are volunteers from among our membership who give freely of their time to ensure we all continue to enjoy the freedom of the road!

Texas

Texas

‘Texas’ Larry Walker, Government Relations Specialist

‘Texas’ Larry Walker is one of the founding members of Washington Road Riders Association, and previous to its founding was active in lobbying as a member of ABATE of Washington. After fourteen years of active advocacy, Larry is known to legislators and staffers across the Capitol campus. Every bit as important as his ability to deliver compelling testimony to legislative committees, Larry also excels in developing relationships that enable him to serve as a trusted advisor on motorcycle issues. Larry sits on the Motorcycle Safety Advisory Board as a stakeholder representative from the motorcycle community. He previously served as an elected Kitsap County Park Commissioner.

And every time he travels to the ‘other’ Washington to lobby, people wonder if ZZ Top is in town….

Larry lives in Port Orchard with his wife, Martha.

WRRA wishes to acknowledge the following individuals who were key to the founding and success of this organization by naming them ex officio members of the WRRA Board of Directors.
